How To Make A Christmas Advent Calendar In An Hour

A homemade Christmas advent calendar is tradition at its best! Not only can they be fun Christmas decor but my kids look forward to the ‘special’ part of the day when they can see what treasure is hiding inside. Maybe it’s a fun candy (check out my post on certified gluten free candy here) or an experience like going to a holiday event, the options are at your creative capacity. We also have accumulated a collection of Christmas books over the years so it’s fun to combine a Christmas story with opening the daily advent. Anything to spark the joy of reading!

Supplies Needed For Christmas Advent Calendar

• glue gun (I love this tool!)
• sewing machine (optional)
• number stickers
• mini clothes pins
• hemp cord
• wooden stars
• Christmas pins
• 4 different patterns of ribbon (2.5 inches wide) (the edges have metal so it makes it very easy to work with)
• a frame
• twigs to make the star at the top

Step 1

Fold each ribbon in half and cut to 4 cm long.

Step 2

Place clear number stickers on wooden stars. Use a glue gun to place stars on Christmas ribbon.

Step 3

Glue gun along the sides or sew (optional).

Step 4

Measure hemp cord across your frame and glue gun the cord onto the back. Lay your Christmas pockets across your frame. I tried to make a Christmas tree design with more pockets at the bottom, decreasing until reaching the top. Attach the pockets to the hemp cord using mini clothespins.

Step 5 of Christmas Advent Calendar

To make the twig star, arrange your sticks aesthetically, then glue gun in place (see, I love my glue gun!). Wrap hemp cord around the points of your star and glue gun to secure. Glue gun your star onto the frame and voila your Christmas advent is ready for filling!
